SLIMLINE BAKING…

Afternoon tea

If you replace sugar in your recipe with half the amount in honey or half dried fruit and half fruit juice, your baking becomes a lot less calories.

You can also save even more calories and fat by replacing half the fat in the recipe with bananas and yoghurt.

Also use wholemeal flour instead of white when baking bread, scones and muffins.

MUMMY’S YUMMIES…

With children now getting more and more interested in baking I thought this small family run business http://www.mummys-yummies.com was brilliant.

It has be set up to bring the fun and ease back into the kitchen for children. Their pre-weighed ‘cake and cookie mixes’, are made using only the highest quality natural ingredients, including organic flour, and come packaged in both smart Kilner Jars and mixed boxes.

I don’t know about you but my first memories of cooking were making rock buns at school and fairy cakes with Mum in the kitchen, with half of the cake mixture left in the bowl for us to lick up with our fingers.

With so many families buying ready made cakes nowadays its a shame that they miss out on such a valuable and bonding time with Mum or Gran. I know if I had some grandchildren that this would be something I would love to buy for them.
