Pancake Day (another name for Shrove Tuesday) is Tuesday 8th March.
Pancake Day is the last day before Lent and so traditionally pancakes are eaten (to use up the eggs and fat which were often not eaten during the fasting period). A Great Pancake Race takes place on Pancake day each year in London on Tower Hill Terrace, in front of the church of All Hallows by the Tower. This is a great fun event and is mirrored in thousands of smaller pancake races around the globe.
With all the celebrity chef’s cookery schools and many other chefs holding cookery classes on a regular basis, you wouldn’t think there would be room for any more. But Waitrose has decided to open one to help you brush up your hostessing skills.
‘Great British Dining, Eating for Vitality and Spring Entertaining’ are some of the classes available and you can choose from a full day, half day or evening workshop.
They say’ learn new techniques and revamp your recipe repertoire as you transform a pile of ingredients into a culinary masterpiece’ !!
