One thing that never changes even if we are short of money is the dirt and dust that lands in our homes on a daily basis.

Some household cleaners are as cheap as chips for around 99p but realised I was buying them frequently on a regular basis ( I am a bit houseproud). And of course your containers. Some are good enough to reuse and reuse but for anything with bleach in I use a glass bottle instead.

Before you start making up your own DIY cleaners, the best thing to do is to look for offers on White Vinegar as this is the base for many cleaners. They last for years so they can be put into your pantry for months so buying in bulk won’t go out of date.

Another product you will use regularly is essential oils so yet again look out for offers on your favourite scent.

Popular ones for the home are lavender, which is known for its natural healing properties and lemon grass as a natural deodorizer which can reduce the presence of unwanted bacteria, microbes, or fungus. Also, eucalyptus acts as a very strong antiseptic and is best known as a decongestant for colds & coughs.

Many of us know that vinegar is great as a glass cleaner, but if you do not put in the correct amount of liquid, it will not work as well.

For a glass, cleaner make it up with 710ml water to 240ml Tablespoon of White Vinegar.

If, like me, you have some wooden floors then simply mix 240ml of water with 240ml of vinegar. You can also pop around 10 drops of your favourite essential oil into this water.

I am a bit of a fanatic about how clean my toilets and bathrooms so I have a spray with 120ml thick bleach filled to the top with water. I find if I spray the tiles and grout regularly with this then it keeps them clean. I kept it in a dark-coloured glass bottle spray so it was distinguishable from the others and clearly written on it BLEACH. Another recipe for a heavy-duty group cleaning is 1420ml water with 100g baking soda, 60ml white vinegar, and 50ml thick bleach. Always remember to label your DIY cleaners.

An all-purpose household cleaner, which leaves a lovely smell is 240ml water, 240ml white vinegar, and 20 drops of your favourite essential oil. I use the ones I have mentioned above lemongrass, lavender and eucalyptus.
