Where did scones originate from? Well, they are traditionally connected to England, Scotland and Ireland, but no-one seems to know who invented it. To test whether old baking powder is still got some oomph in it, mix 2 tsp of it with 200ml (fl oz) of hot water. The mixture should bubble and fizz immediately if the powder is still active. If there’s little reaction or it’s delayed, discard it.
