MY VERY OWN ‘Quintessentially’ BRITISH AFTERNOON TEA…

Afternoon Tea

With all my writings on afternoon teas I was getting quite desperate to have one of my own. So, yesterday I had a surprise ‘Vintage Theme Afternoon Tea’ for my friends 60th Birthday.

I have a number of my own vintage cups and saucers but I knew I needed more to have enough for 20 of us. So for some time I’ve been popping into charity shops to look out for cake stands and china. I then bought some pretty vintage style napkins and laid them all out for us which I think you will agree looked really pretty.

My friend thought she was coming round for a fund-raising tea but instead was surprised by 20 of her closest female friends including her two daughters and mother. Her face when she saw everyone was an absolute picture.

Some of my friends helped me out with the baking and brought some cakes and C made some fantastic sandwiches cut in finger size pieces, just like the original afternoon teas.

I finished the afternoon off with a birthday cake made by a friends daughter which was in a beautiful turquoise colour (my friends favourite colour) with a pretty shoe and feathers on the top of it. I had also made her a vintage theme photo album of ‘fun with the girls’, and made sure that everyone who came to the surprise party was on one of the photos in the album.

All in all a lovely time was had by all and there is no question about it, home made cakes are in a class of their own.

  1. It was such fun and such a surprise for my friend, but well worth all the effort and just a little bit different from the normal surprise parties.:):) My daughter adores anything vintage and wants all my pictures for ideas. 🙂

    • She was well and truly chuffed and keeps ringing me up and thanking me – she said she can’t stop looking through the album. I think she went on with a big smile on her face. 🙂
