In the 1887-1890 Century the average consumption of sugar was only about 5lbs per person per year!

Cardiovascular disease and cancer was virtually unknown in the early 1900’s.

Now, our sugar consumption has increased to 135lbs per person per year!!!!!

Also between 1939- 1945, during the World War 11, when flour in England was either unrefined or less refined, there was a decline in the death rate of major diseases, such as heart disease.

I found it totally amazing. I think for me to have to live without it I would probably have withdrawl symptoms. :)):)

This should be broadcast in big letters on boards so that you would think a bit more before you eat or drink sweet things.

An excellent book on this very subject is Why We Get Fat by Gary Taubes. It’s not a diet book and neither is it a difficult read. Highly recommended.

Cheers Lester for that info on the book, ‘why we get far’- I am sure some of my readers would be very interested in it. 🙂

And probably more because there is sugar in all processed foods.

It does make you wonder how much sugar is put into some processed foods. Fortunately we are not big users of processed foods.

Thats good. But so much of our food is processed in one way or another. If we can get good fresh fruit and veges, thats a big help.

Yes, I can remember Mum always putting two big spoonfulls of sugar in our tea whereas I never put any in my children’s tea.
