All crumpets should be toasted on both sides, the smooth side first, the holey side last, as this produces a suitable concavity for the butter…Never cut a muffin, snip round the curved side and pull top and bottom apart and insert the butter in thin slices, do not attempt to spread it.

Afternoon tea

Muffins tea shop is an award-winning tea room and Delicatessen found in Lostwithiel Cornwall, about 5 miles east of the Eden Project and 4 miles north of Fowey.

In the summer you can enjoy your afternoon tea in a lovely walled garden, otherwise in the light and spacious tea shop with its pretty tablecloths and afternoon teas to match.

Parts of Lostwithiel date from the late 13th Century, but this tea room as far from behind the times with its award-winning Cornish Cream Teas. These are accompanied with the Trewithen clotted cream and strawberry jam as well as the home-made cakes.

You can also browse some of the gifts and prize-winning home made Chutneys to buy from the shop.
