Baking recipes typically serve large groups, which is perfect for a party, a celebration or a crowd, but not when there’s just one or two of you and you would rather not spend the money on making a big batch, or be faced with eating leftovers for a week.

Following on from the huge success of One Tin Bakes and One Tin Bakes Easy, Great British Bake Off winner Edd Kimber’s new book proves that good things really do come in small packages! It offers accessible, easy bakes that are perfect for singles, small households, students or anyone who likes to bake a lot.

Primarily sweet, the recipes include cookies, cakes, tarts and bars a well as desserts and a sprinkling of savoury breads, buns and pies. The skill level is on the easier side, and equipment is kept to a minimum, so everyone can have a little of what they fancy.

Great idea to bake in small batches. Reduces waste and does not increase the waistline.
This book is all about smaller serving sizes. So it includes things like recipes for single cookies, desserts that serve 2, and even a few savoury recipes. The sections are : one or 2 leftover eggs, pastry recipes, cookies bars and treats, cakes, desserts, bread and buns, and then some small batch basics (techniques for various types of pastry, dough, pastry cream, jam etc.,)The recipes are all things we would love to eat – but rather than bake 12 plus extra (and eat them all over a couple of days) you just bake enough for a treat. It is a brilliant idea for a book with a great selection of recipes.

    Purchased as a gift
Got this as a present for my girlfriend. She keeps baking delicious things from the book.I am now fatter. The book is good, but my willpower isn’t.

    Genius idea for a book
I love to bake, but I’m not always baking for a large number so it can be frustrating having to choose a recipe I can either freeze for later or that will keep for quite a while. So this book is perfect for me, with so many tasty looking recipes serving between 1 and 6 people. Plus I love that there’s also some savoury recipes added as well.Since the book arrived on Thursday I’ve already made the emergency cookie recipe and the everything seasoned morning buns. Both were fantastic! I’ve loved all of Edd’s books, but this one is destined to be my most used I think

    Some issues
I loved the idea of this book, being a family of 3, and most of the recipes looked great….however, having now tried 4 of the recipes so far (chocolate tahini crackle cookies, peanut butter cookies, flaky pastry and meringue with jam and psitachio) I’ve found the timings in the book and ‘serves quantity’ to be a bit off, along with some steps that didn’t seem to work/steps missing. As an example, the book says to chill the dough for the chocolate tahini cookies for 4 hours – try rolling a hard block of dough in to small balls after that! Once rolled into balls, the next step is to roll in icing sugar and put in oven for 15 minutes – my first attempt looked like chocolate golf balls so second attempt I flattened them slightly with a fork, same with the peanut butter cookies. So far, the 4 recipes I’ve made have all tasted good but have needed some adjustments so a bit disappointed but will keep the book, largely because I’ve now written the adjustments next to each recipe!

    Love the small batch concept
We are a small family of 3 so I do not want to make large cakes but I do enjoy baking. This book is the perfect solution. We have made 3 recipes so far and Edd’s videos on Instagram are really helpful to get a perfect result. My 6 year old son loves watching Edd bake and choosing our next recipe. Super book with some innovative ideas too.

    Great book, well tested recipes
I’ve been an Edd Kimber fan since GBBO. His recipe books are great and the recipes are well-tested so always work well.

This is the second small batch baking book that I’ve purchased this month. The first one was returned because both of the recipes I tried didn’t work. I have tried two recipes so far- the oatmeal raisin cookies and the salted maple brown butter tarts with the sweet pastry. Both recipes worked perfectly and they were delicious. I’m looking forward to trying more.
