What Are Fruit Teas?

Fruit teas are made with various fruits, botanicals and flowers. Flowers and botanicals are used to give flavour and to impart that fruity flavour, and a lot of fruit teas can be a blend of fruits and other herbs such as Lavender and Jasmine. Noted for their refreshing and invigorating qualities, fruit teas also have many health benefits. They are often used as an antioxidant or anti-inflammatory treatment, along with herbal teas.

As you can imagine, there are a wide range of different fruit teas out there, some common, such as apples, pears and oranges. But also, more exotic fruits such as mangoes, guavas and passionfruit.

Types of Fruit Tea

Fruit teas can be broken down into three main types.

  1. Fruit Flavoured Teas
  2. Fruit Infused Teas
  3. Herbal Fruit Teas

Fruit flavoured teas are made from adding fruit extracts to the tea leaves.

Fruit infused teas tend to be made by infusing the tea leaves with the dried fruits

Herbal fruit teas are a combination of botanicals and herbs, as well as fruits.

All of the fruit teas are added to a teapot or teacup and steeped for a few moments before drinking.

There are five main categories of fruit teas.

  1. Citrus Fruits-lemons, limes, grapefruits, oranges.
  2. Berry Fruits-raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, blackberries.
  3. Stone Fruits-apricots, cherries, plums, peaches.
  4. Other Fruits-grapes, melons, pears, apples.

Which Tea Should I Choose?

The choice of fruit teas is quite daunting. Not only can you buy a wide range of individual fruity teas, but you can also buy a blend of different fruited teas (you can also throw in the mix, a number of herbal blends as well.). Therefore, it might be a good idea to buy a variety pack of fruit teas and experiment. Below are a number of different makes that you may want to try.
