NATIONAL CHEESE LOVERS DAY 20th JANUARY 2024

What is National Cheese Lovers Day?

National Cheese Lovers’ Day is a day dedicated to the celebration of all the different varieties of cheese in the world. From punchy, crunchy Aged Goudas to soft, oozing, mushroomy Camemberts, there is a cheese for every palate, whatever the occasion. It is an unofficial food day that originated in the United States.

Any Day Calendar writes that the best way to celebrate it is to throw a cheese party and taste as many cheese varieties as possible, or at least to buy a cheese you’ve never tried before and enjoy it with a glass of wine. You can also treat yourself to some cheese fondue or cheese pizza, or cook a fancy but relatively easy to make cheese dish such as bacon, pear and blue cheese salad.

Did you know that, according to prnewswireThe official word for someone who loves cheese is turophile. This word got its start back in the 1930s and never really caught on—saying cheese lover might just be easier. Wondering where the word comes from? The origin story for turophile can be traced to the Greek word for cheese, tyros, and the English ending -phile, for lover.

There is an entire virtual (and IRL hybrid) community for loud and proud artisan cheese lovers. While you won’t find it listed on any map, Cheeselandia® is a magical place where artisan cheese is celebrated by every citizen. People from around the country have in-home cheese parties, attend educational events, become council members, meet cheesemakers, and yes, eat lots of incredible cheese together. If you’re a turophile, Cheeselandia is the place for you!”
