Pomegranate juice is bursting with Vitamins A,C,E, and folic acid, giving it three times more antioxidant power than green tea and wine.

Recent studies have shown that pomegranate juice may reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease, osteoarthritis and some cancers.

  1. It’s also supposed to be good for joint pains, I think … or is that something else?? I haven’t been able to find pure juice – they are all ‘juice drinks’.

    • No, I’ve never found any juice and they are such finicky (if that’s how you spell it) things to try and juice yourself. Shimon does his own though 🙂

      • I would imagine they are impossible almost to juice at home. Sliced in half and bashed on the skin side with a wooden spoon will release the seeds into the bowl you have done it over, if the juice is good the seeds must be too x

  2. I’ve been drinking it for quite a while now, and love it. The taste is best when you make the juice yourself, with the help of a fruit press.

    • Ahh, that’s your trick Shimon, we have just been saying how difficult it would be to make your own juice with this particular fruit and you don’t see it around in our shops as a drink at the moment. Well done with your fruit press. Maybe we should set up a company for you to import it to us in the UK :)):):)

      • Yes Barbara, the pomegranate is native to Israel, and known for it’s healthy qualities. I’ve always enjoyed eating them. After getting the heart disease, I tried drinking the juice sold in markets here, but there was a slightly bitter taste. I think it comes from bits of the peel that get included in the industrial process. I have all kinds of electrical juicers, but I found that this 40 year old hand juicer did the best in providing a clean pure juice.

The juice is unbelievably tasty… just a wee bit tart. I think it compares to the best of wine, though it’s not alcoholic, unfortunately. I actually feel the strength of the fruit surging through my body after drinking a glass of this juice.

  3. Wow Shimon, that’s really interesting and what a fantastic find to have such an old press which I am sure is much better than more modern ones. Thanks so much for this info Shimon 🙂
